Engine Committed

Hey guys, my 2013 2.0T kicked it today on my drive home from a friends. It started fine and was good for about 10 minutes into my drive then started making a clicking sound when pushing the pedal down. I thought it was something stuck inbetween the tire and I had just got off the highway ramp so I was going to pull over. Right when I pressed the brake it had a massive loss of power and the check light flicked on. I sat on the highway for a sec then had to drive it to my dealership only 15 minutes away. It wouldn't shift in automatic so I had to use manual and was limited to 65mph and wouldn't push 2k on the revs when sitting at 60. When I got to the dealership the oil was bone dry. I just hit 122k miles and i thought the coverage was 120k for the recall. How bad am I screwed.

Are you a good customer of the dealership? If so, they may give you additional warranty consideration. Your case will be stronger if you have receipts for oil changes.

If the dealer says 'no' you can try Hyundai corporate. There is a section in your warranty booklet that describes the procedure.

You may be able to negotiate a partial warranty claim for a new engine if your full warranty claim is denied. Ask the service manager for advice on this.

So I FINALLY got a call stating they diagnosed and would send a rep to come check it out. I have only done my oil changes at the dealership because it’s close and they only take about 30 minutes to deal with it and its around 30-40$ to have it changed with a new filter. I looked at the class action lawsuit and my dad opted for the lifetime warranty option so they should be giving me another engine for free. I was also looking at the oil burning class action and noticed how the 2011-2014 sonatas aren’t under that and I’m confused because we have the same Theta II engines. (or atleast I can think of off the top of my head.)

Keep us informed on what happens. Hopefully, Hyundai will want to keep you as a customer and will do right by you

Good luck.

Finally got my car back, engine was a free replacement and they honored the deal. :)
Good news. Glad it worked out Heard so many stories about dealerships doing everything they can to deny the warranty.

Go online to sites like dealerrater.com, yelp.com and Google reviews and give the dealership some kudos for doing right by you.

Sounds like you are a good dealership customer. Keep that relationship going. Let's encourage the good guys to keep doing the right thing.
