I've faced an engine start problem with my Hyundai Sonata 2002. Mostly the engine starts well but sometimes it needs four or five turns for the starter to start up the engine. Once I noticed this problem when I tried to start the engine right after it had been stopped for a few minutes. Another time the problem appeared when I tried to start the engine cold. Has anyone experienced such types of problems with Hyundai Sonata?

do you know if your 02 sonata has fuse associated with the starting system? if so check that first

If the fuse is fine, than my guess is a bad ignition switch, turn your headlights on while cranking your ignition to start, if it dims, or goes dark/off while cranking than that means your ignition switch is fine, however if the lights stay on 100% without any dimming that means something is associated with the ignition switch
