2009 Sonata: The ESC Off light comes on and pushing the ON/OFF switch does not put it out. If I shut the car off and re start, the dash light goes out sometimes; May return the next time I start the car..

I've heard that the problem has something to do with the brake sensors. People usually notice that the brake lights go crazy as well.

Either way I'd bring it to a dealer or a mechanic.

My 2009 is in the shop right now for my check engine light. My ESC light is also coming on as well. They ran the diagnostic and the only code that showed up was a faulty crankshaft sensor. I'm wondering if that is affecting the ESC. I know when the ESC comes on I get hesitation before it. That might be the crankshaft sensors doing. They said no other codes came up. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens.

I agree this is not the most happening Hyundai Sonata Forum out there, but as far as I can tell your Car has been at the Dealer for a month, or you passed away that day, after possibly learning the cost of the repair, or both or neither? Thanks for keeping us posted:confused:

I have had my car for all of 6 days, I started getting that ESC Off on the dash 3 days after getting the car, that night when I got home I went to put the car in park and the neutral safety would not let it go into park. I then noticed I had no brake lights. I then put the ebrake on and placed the car in neutral and opened the shift lock bypass, got the car into park and then went and got a heavy wrench and proceeded to tap the brake light switch then felt the plunger and got it to push back out(while holding the pedal down) I then went to research and found this a common problem so I called the dealer and they replaced it free.

Are you speaking about the Brake Light Switch? Originally that TSB/Recall was just for 2006-2008 Units. The thing with Hyundai is some of the replacement parts used are just as bad, that's what bothers me. However I'd rather see the ABS/TSC light lit than the dreaded RED AIR BAG Light

Esc off light on hyundai

This problem was recalled back in 2007-2008 and is presently being recalled on some vehicles. This appears to be a common problem with Hyundais who refuse to address the problem unless the cars are recalled. Please write the National Car Safety so that they can request a recall. Without these complaints, the recall will not occur and everyone will be paying out of pocket for a manufacturing defect.

ESC Light comes on Intermittently

Common problem with Hyundai. Previous recalls and current recall on some models. File a complaints with National Safety so that a recall can be extended to more vehicles. Hyundai is unwilling to fix these issues without a recall. Want people to pay out of pocket for something that is a manufacturing defect.

I was surprised to get a letter to put with all the other important ownership papers last week. Up to now Hyundai only helped those who complained, even turning away many of them. They did it on the cheap with thousands of Sonatas out there really never looked at.
