Greetings. My 2018 Sonata SE is now in the 23000 range and for the last two oil changes have been recommending a fuel cleaning for over $200. I know that I have the gdi on my 2.4 (as is the style of the time) but is it necessary and does it help with carbon buildup or is it snakeoil?

Though the mileage on my 2012 Sonata is much higher (55K) I’m also wondering whether this fuel service actually provides any real benefit... to my car, if course. The benefit to the dealer is obvious!

Anyone have thoughts or experience with having this service performed?

My 2013 2.4 has 144;xxx mikes on it and I have never done any recommended services. Just oil changes, brakes and rotor as and of course tires. No issues.

My 2011 Sonota has 111,563 miles on it. I have not had the "fuel cleaning" done. After researching the issue I decided it was not needed. I use gas that has Top Tier additive in it, or Chevron's Techron gas. If you put a can of Techron in the gas tank once or twice a year it will clean things that need cleaning.

Before I did the research on the issue I had my Ford F150 "fuel cleaned", did not make any difference. The truck ran the same as it always did. I was buying cheap gas for it but now put in CostCo gas that has Top Tier additives.
