Hyundai has announced a recall for Sante Fe models built between 2007-2009, and Sonata’s built between 2012-2013, citing airbag issues in both vehicles.
About 22,512 Hyundai Sonata’s are being recalled for side curtain airbag issues. The side curtain bags can deploy without command, increasing the risk of an accident due to distraction and lack of driver visibility. Hyundai will replace the side curtain airbags on these vehicles free of charge.
As for the Santa Fe, 199,118 units are being recalled because of a fault in the occupant classification system. The front seat detection system may not recognize small adults, and will therefore not deploy the passenger airbag in the event of a collision. Hyundai will update the software free of charge in affected vehicles.
For more information on either of these recalls, you can contact the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
