Hyundai Sonata LED Tail/Turn Signal LEDs




From the factory, your Hyundai Sonata's tail light bulbs are powered by standard incandescent lights that light up white in color, and cast light through your red or amber tail light lens. This results in a washed-out color.

Newer luxury vehicles are using LEDs for turn signals, because LEDs offer a crisp, instant on/off function, increased brightness, and true, vibrant color. By replacing the bulbs in your Sonata, you can achieve this modern look!

Brightness

Diode Dynamics offers several brightness options so you can choose what fits you best. These options are listed by the design and the lumen output of each bulb compared to factory:

HP11: (310 lumens) Slightly higher brightness than OEM bulbs.

XP80: (510 lumens) Much brighter than OEM bulbs. These are bright!

Bulb Design:

HP11: Four side-firing 1.5W-rated Osram LED chips, and one 5W-rated LED chip on top, which is projected by a lens for maximum effective brightness. The bulb is housed in a machined aluminum casing, which provides superior heat diffusion for long life.

XP80: Each of the four sides of this bulb contains three 5W-rated chips, and the top is fitted with four more under a projector lens. This is the brightest self-contained automotive LED bulb on the market, and is housed in an aluminum casing with a textured finish for maximum heatsinking properties.

Nice looking product advertisements but it would be better if you included the actual wiring connections necessary to install your product.
RE: I have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata and going into the passengers side Turn/running light socket I have three wire colors Brown/Blue/Black and on the Drivers side I have Red/Black/Green. Now just which wires do I connect the Load Resistor to?

We'd be happy to help anyone with the installation- usually I'd simply ask to email us at [email protected]

However, I can tell you right away that you'll need to tap the black and blue on passenger, and black and green on driver.

So for the '13 Sonata, your site says a flasher replacement is available. Is this correct? Do you know where the flasher is under the dash and is it easy to access or am I taking things apart?

The flasher is only available until 2005. After that, it is digital and requires a flasher module. I'm sorry for any confusion.

I know I'm bringing up an older thread, but I am very active on Hyundai Forums, and just came across this forum.

I have the load resistors installed on the rear turns, installed the 510 Lumen XP80 LEDs in the rear, but have not changed my front bulbs yet. Will I need those resistors, or will I be able to return those if not needed? (I purchased 2 load resistor kits). I have XP80's for the fronts as well.

I know I'm bringing up an older thread, but I am very active on Hyundai Forums, and just came across this forum.

I have the load resistors installed on the rear turns, installed the 510 Lumen XP80 LEDs in the rear, but have not changed my front bulbs yet. Will I need those resistors, or will I be able to return those if not needed? (I purchased 2 load resistor kits). I have XP80's for the fronts as well.

Turn signal locations will require you to install resistors to prevent hyperflashing.

You'll need to add a resistor for each incandescent turn signal bulb that you replace with an LED

Nick, the front bulbs are in a "cap" type of setup. I do not see any wires to them. To change the front bulb, you go in through the wheel well, and pop off a cover, then reach in, unscrew the bulb cap, and the bulb is in there with it, the whole assembly, cap and bulb come out, with no wires. The cap has contacts which connect to the housing when put back in and locked in.

I do not see the wiring harness, and earlier in this thread, it said that only one set of load resistors was needed (either front OR rear) to cover the entire load. Was that a load? or do I need to find the wiring harness of the front headlamp assembly, and figure out which wires are for the turns?

A standard, 6 ohm 50 watt resistor for each turn signal will typically correct the hyperflashing.

Well, your guy, phil, didn't help. So I wasted two splices and two resistors. I can reuse the resistors, as stated, but how are the splicers "re-usable"?

I wish to request two additional splicers at no cost to me, as installing all 4 resistors on the rear turns did not fix the issue, as was suggested by your service tech. I will not pay for more splicers, and I will re-use the resistors on the fronts, since obviously your guys know nothing about the car and how the circuits work.

Not very happy right now.

All you need to do is tap the resistors to the turn signal positive and ground wires

If your resistors aren't getting warm during turn-signal use, then the quick-splice connectors aren't installed correctly

The quick-splice connectors are reusable

I apologize for the issues you are having, but it's a very simple and straightforward procedure

These wires will be on the main headlight harness, All newer Hyundais use an integrated wiring system for their headlights, so all of the wires come out of one headlight connector

I waiting until some company comes out with an LED that doesn't need a load resistor or has one built in. I don't want to splice wires and void my warranty.

Electrical resistance generates heat, heat causes LEDs to fail.

If you had a turn signal LED bulb with built-in resistors, they would get hot and cause premature failure.

We are working on plug and play resistor harnesses, but the splice-in resistors are the standard fix.

If you are concerned with voiding your warranty, I'd suggest leaving your Sonata completely stock

THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!



But not sure how the splicers are re-usable, once pressed down in? There's no way to "undo" the crimping, at least that I can tell.

They can be easily undone, but if you'd rather use a new set, they are sold at every major hardware store for maybe a dollar or two tops

You'll know they are installed correctly if the resistors generate heat with the turn signals applied

Ok, I know this is an OLD post, but I finally got to the front turns. I hooked to the wires you said, and I ended up with a small fire from one of the resistors. It burned itself up and the one lead actually burned off the resistor itself.

Not sure what I did wrong. I did exactly like you said, the power to turn and ground, and had that issue. Luckily I didn't damage any equipment in the car or anything else, just the resistors.

Any ideas?

Resistors, by their very nature, will get hot when they are in use. Heat is a byproduct of electrical resistance.

For this reason, they should be mounted away from soft plastics, or rubber.
