Hello, I’m new to this forum. I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS with 254,870 miles. It has the 2.4 engine and still runs great! But I have a problem with the radio volume not working. If you hit the xm button or play a CD the volume does work. Also if you press any steering wheel controls for the radio the volume go straight to MAX. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Fuse? Clock spring, radio controls or the factory radio itself? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Congratulations on the mileage. That is impressive

Just a guess, but my first thought is a busted potentiometer, the volume control. That is the first thing to fail in electronics.

Probably the cheapest fix is to visit a Best Buy or other auto electronics shop and have them replace the unit. You could also drop by the local salvage yard and see if you can snag a working OEM replacement.

Good luck.

Thanks for the comments y’all. And Merry Christmas! Yeah I’m not sure if it’s my factory head unit or not. If you press the steering wheel volume controls in any mode the volume starts increasing to MAX volume on its own. My first thought was to replace the radio controls on the steering wheel. But I don’t know if that has anything to do with not having volume for the actual radio stations.

That's a good idea, and that's how I solved my radio problem.
