I heard that Hyundai was caught fudging its fuel efficiency numbers by the EPA, and now I am curious as to what the actually fuel efficiency numbers are for the the Sonata Hybrid. Car and Driver says that in mixed driving the Sonata Hybrid achieved 33 mpg, and Hyundai itself reports that the Sonata Hybrid gets 40 mpg during highway driving.

I'm wondering if these numbers are to be trusted so that I can make an informed decision before making a purchase.

With 2700 miles on my new '13 Sonata Hybrid, I feel confident in stating that I consistently get 38 MPG. Got 40+ on a round trip between San Diego and Vegas.... The more highway miles, the better the MPG. About 2/3 of my driving is highway.
